(With photos) CAIRO, Oct 12 (KUNA) -- The Arab justice ministers on Sunday held an extraordinary session under the chairmanship of Kuwaiti Minister of Justice and Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Hussein Nasser Al-Huraiti upon a request from Sudan. The extraordinary meeting came to discuss the dispute between Sudan and the International Criminal Court (ICC) on the background of ICC Prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo issuance of an arrest warrant against Sudanese President Omar Al-Bashir, as the meeting aim to form a unified Arab legal stance in this regard. In an opening speech of the meeting, Minister Al-Huraiti explained that the meeting was designed to discuss legal implications of Moreno-Ocampo's report, as well as studying legal measures taken against the Sudanese president, so as to take appropriate decisions and recommendations in this regard. Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa, in a speech delivered on his behalf by the Director of the Legal Department at the League Radwan Bin Khadra, said that the Council of Arab Justice Ministers' meeting was in the framework of its role as the legal arm to support Sudan's stance in this situation. He stressed that stance of ICC prosecutor was still "incomprehensible" and had hampered efforts to reach a settlement to the Darfur issue. For his part, the Sudanese Minister of Justice Abdulbasit Sabdarat displayed a legal memorandum before the council on the Sudan-ICC crisis, saying "the Security Council has wantonly interfered in the Darfur issue, although it is a domestic issue." He further noted that the Security Council had issued 13 resolutions on that regard, yet failed to recognize Sudan's eradication of insurgency in the Darfur region. Sabdarat described the UNSC resolution 1593 to refer the case to the ICC as "catastrophic". (pick up previous) mab.mfm.rg.hb KUNA 121628 Oct 08NNNN
